Jack Stockmaster

Jack Stockmaster started competitive cycling in 2007 at the age of seventy.  Not the usual thing a seventy year old does.  While cycling with his son in South Carolina, also an avid cyclist, one of the other cyclists commented how strong a rider jack was and that he should look into the Senior Games.  So in 2008 Jack competed in the Ohio Senior Olympic games in the road race events and took 2nd and 3rd place respectively in the 20k and 40k road races qualifying for Nationals.  His first National Senior Games events were the 2009 games in San Francisco, CA where he took a respectable 12th and 14th place in the 20k and 40k road races respectively.  In a couple of years Jack gain more experience and improved upon his conditioning and together with his son Brian were able to compete together at the 2011 National Senior Games in Houston, TX.  Jack and his son enjoyed competing together and routinely could be seen at various state games often at the Ohio Senior Olympics, South Carolina Senior Sports Classic, and the Georgia Golden Olympics.

Jack reached his top form in 2013 taking 4th in the 10k time trial at the National Senior Games in Cleveland, Ohio.  Unfortunately the following day while warming up for another event he was involved in a cycling accident where he broke his collar bone and had to withdrawal from the games.  Jack continued to compete in the following years but has recently decided to hang up the competitive racing and concentrate on simply enjoying riding his bike.  One of Jack’s favorite rides is a forty-four mile round trip from his home in Bucyrus, Ohio to a Tim Horton’s in Marion where the staff have his usual Iced Cappuccino and cinnamon roll ready every time they see him pedal up.
