As I was approaching my 50th birthday and being terribly out of shape, I set a goal to complete a triathlon. I accomplished that goal and continued to participate in several sprint triathlons and duathlons over the next few years, my best finish was 2nd place in my age group at the Tri for Life sprint triathlon. In 2012 I started focusing more on cycling, and set a goal to compete in the Michigan Senior Olympics and qualify for the National Senior games in 2013. I was fortunate enough to accomplish both of those goals and I discovered that I love bike racing. Shortly after participating in the 2013 National Senior Games I found out that I had 80 to 90 percent blockage in two main arteries (which explained my poor results, but I’m fortunate to be alive). Five stents were inserted into those two arteries and now I am as good as new, I continue to get faster on the bike each year, and I look forward to doing many more races.
I have a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Astrophysics from Michigan State University. I work as a Senior Advanced Quality Planning Engineer for Molex, LLC in Auburn Hills, Michigan. I also enjoy kayak fishing. I coached youth soccer and coached teen Bible quizzing for several years. One of my Bible quizzing teams won a national championship in the Church of the Nazarene denomination.
